Can You Actually Unlock iPhone 3gs with 6.1 Firmware?
Until today the answer was no, but YES YOU CAN unlock your iPhone 3gs while running iOS 6.1 firmware!
Apple is against jailbreaking and unlocking iPhone 3gs because they don't like their products to be modified. Apple wants to maintain exclusivity to create the hype for its phones and these strategies have been successful thus far. Network operators such as AT&T and Verizon are interested in selling iPhones on contract as they are able to bill subscribers heavily every month. As a user, this forced contract with service providers won’t provide you any benefit. You may get iPhone at a lower price initially, but when you calculate the extra money your paying the cellphone provider every month, you come to realize that you are actually paying more for the phone.
Getting iPhone 3gs unlock directly in the form of factory unlocked phone may seem to be the most logical and ethical solution. However, in that case, you have to pay double the price of the phone initially. This can be a tough task as you wouldn’t have the heart to spend thousands of dollars for a simple phone. iPhone 3gs is already expensive enough and you can’t possibly afford to pay such a huge price for a phone. Even if it is an iPhone 3gs, it is still a phone and that fact can’t be forgotten.
Now, many network operators are trying to offer iPhone 3gs unlocking for long standing subscribers. This is a lame attempt to keep the number of subscribers high, but not many people understand the underlying trick here. You have to buy iPhone with the contract and pay bills meticulously every month for the entire contract period. At the end of the contract period, the operator will officially unlock your iPhone. This means that you have to be happy with an unlocked older model of iPhone when a newer model hits the market.
